Management Functions
in Web Browsers

Most, if not all, current web browsers make your life easier by 'learning' certain patterns and information that you enter. These will either happen one of three ways: automatically, such as remembering the web pages you've visited; by offering you options to remember certain information; or by manually entering the details yourself.

Examples of Management Functions

  • password management: the browser offers you the option of remembering usernames and passwords for site memberships

  • bookmark management (aka "favourites"): the ability for you to save and organise the addresses of sites you visit frequently

  • form management: the browser remembers information you enter into forms on the internet and automatically fills in subsequent forms, or offers you options to enter

  • download management: the browser automatically saves downloads to a specified folder on your computer, and gives you options for how to handle downloads

  • file management: allows you to manage web-related files, such as shared items
