pdf

'pdf' stands for 'portable document format'. A pdf document is formatted so that anybody who has a pdf reader application can view it, no matter what format the document was originally created in. For instance, a word processor document created on OpenOffice.org may be saved as a pdf, which can then be read by anybody without having to have OpenOffice.org installed.
